{"id":563,"date":"2013-10-07T05:11:11","date_gmt":"2013-10-07T05:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesixsides.com\/?p=563"},"modified":"2018-03-12T20:15:15","modified_gmt":"2018-03-12T20:15:15","slug":"returning-to-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thesixsides.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/07\/returning-to-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"Returning to Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About a year ago I decided to leave Facebook for three  primary reasons.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Privacy issues.<\/li>\n<li>I was getting less out of the network than I was putting in.<\/li>\n<li>Trivializing human interaction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Through the month of October and November I\u2019m going to re-explore those points. Perhaps the way I feel about them will have changed. While I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ll ever fully come to terms with their privacy settings and policies, it&#8217;s hard to remain critical of a product I haven&#8217;t tried in a year. <\/p>\n<p>Around last year, I felt like I was posting into a black hole; content and statuses in, nothing out; nothing about it felt social. I was also in immediate contact with many of my friends on a day to day basis. Today those friends are scattered across the country and globe. I return to Facebook to give <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/facebook\/info\">their mission statement<\/a> a second chance.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;give people the power to <strong>share<\/strong> and make the world more <strong>open<\/strong> and <strong>connected<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sharing is not what concerns me, and <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/thrawst\">my Twitter feed<\/a> is pretty open.
